I’m a little late to the game, but I recently purchased a few of NYX Cosmetics’ Liquid Suede Lip Creams and I thought I would give them a little review.
The selection was pretty bare, which usually seems to be the case with NYX and Ulta if you don’t catch the newness as soon as it goes out…but I was able to snag four colors that I thought looked interesting!
I would like to start with the fact that I LOVE liquid lipstick.
I’m lazy, and sloppy, and love to eat food, and kiss people… When I know I’m going to be social, I like to wear liquid lipsticks so
I don’t have to worry about touching up throughout the day (…or accidentally smearing it across my face and giving myself a red mustache).
I want to artistically express myself through my lipstick, and not have to constantly check my face in the mirror all day.
So, when I heard about the liquid lipsticks from NYX, I was obviously overjoyed.
They’re a budget brand with good quality, and usually come in lots of different pretty colors.
Perfect. I’ll take them all.
I’m not going to say that I don’t like them. Because I totally do. They’re just not what comes to mind when I think “liquid lipstick”. I think my problem mostly stems from a misconception that they were liquid lipsticks, and not what they actually are: lip creams.
In any case, the consistency is a little different from the liquid lipsticks I’m used to, such as Stila, LA Splash, Lime Crime, Anastasia etc… NYX Liquid Suede lippies are more of a “matte finish” long wear lip cream.
They remind me a lot of the Super Matte Cream lippies in their consistency, only the colors are more vibrant and last longer throughout the day.
They are true to their name, in that their texture has a suede-like softness. The Avocado and Olive oil keep your lips from feeling dry and flakey, but they also inhibit the lippie from fully setting – resulting in a slight tackiness and mobility.
They will totally transfer and smudge, so if you’re looking for a superlippie – these bad boys aren’t them. They are very soft, creamy and decently pigmented; the colors that I tried all need a double swipe of product to get you to full opacity, but they will last you through a good part of your day.
Price point (at a whopping $7) is awesome compared to other liquid lipsticks, which tend to retail around $20. If they had been more expensive, I probably would have returned them; But! I got these on a BOGO sale, so it’s really not a bad buy in my book. The product is not quite what I desired, but the more I wear them, the more they grow on me.
“Life’s A Beach”, is a bright coral.
“Orange County”, is a bright almost neon orange.
“Amethyst”, is a deep and bright purple.
“Sway”, is a beautiful pastel Lavender color.
My expectations: a liquid lipstick that I could apply once in the morning, and forget about until I removed it at night.
What I got: a creamy matte-finish lipstick that needs touching-up throughout the day, but is pretty so will get worn anyway. (Disclaimer: Definitely don’t wear if you expect to be kissing boyfriends…because you both will end up wearing it.)
